What a whirlwind weekend! As you know by now, I’m a ZOOMA Annapolis race ambassador, and I’ve been super excited for the ZOOMA racecation for quite some time. I needed this little getaway and had a blast meeting people and running this weekend. Today I’ll share the pre-race festivities and fun with you. I’m almost done with the ZOOMA Annapolis race recap, so that will be posted this week!
So let’s start on Friday, since for ZOOMA the experience started before race day.
I didn’t get to Annapolis as early as I planned because of my son’s Kindergarten Early Entrance Assessment/Orientation. He just misses the September 1 cutoff so he was being assessed – we’ll see if he is able to go this fall, and if he is we may decided to have him spend the year in Pre-K anyhow. He was super excited to go to his sister’s “big school” for the day.
Then I took him out to lunch, then did the obligatory racecation packing and household chores, so by the time I left I had quite a bit of traffic.
Oh, and bonus: circling around Annapolis a few times not following my GPS’s directions…
I went straight to dinner to meet up with some of the other Ambassadors at the Federal House Bar and Grille – I’d have to get my race packet later. Food, drinks and meeting up with friends was much more important than getting my bib, right? Plus the Expo was open until 8pm – plenty of time!
On the left from front to back is Erika (MCM Mama Runs), Courtney (Eat Pray Run, DC), Lisa (Lisa Runs for Cupcakes). On the right from front to back is me (you know my blog), Sue (This Mama Runs for Cupcakes), Mar (Mar on the Run), and Heidi (Life in Pink).
I was excited to have dinner out in such a scenic town and eat a yummy crab cake sandwich (it’s Annapolis, you must get crab!). And I mayyyyy have had two glasses of wine the night before a half marathon. Oops!
Sue and yours truly after some wine…
After dinner, we went to the ZOOMA host hotel, the Loews Annapolis, where the Expo and Honest Tea Mocktail Party was hopping. I checked in to the hotel and threw my stuff in the room, and headed back downstairs to get my race bib, swag bag, and socialize.
I liked the Expo – it was in one room but you had clothing, race-day essentials, ZOOMA merchandise, and various other vendors.
I grabbed my race bib and swag bag, which was totally fab – a hat, shirt, Just Go Girl pads, and a pair of Feetures socks in a cute little bag. I had heard ZOOMA swag was great and love the items we received.
I saw the Another Mother Runner table and went over. The really nice person behind the table (who was also named Cynthia!) asked if I was familiar with AMR. I said YES – I was just on the website yesterday as Follow This Mother! We thought that was loads of fun and snapped a pic.
I bought the two AMR books I’ve been wanting to buy (they were a screaming deal at the Expo!) and an awesome shirt!
Front Row L to R: Colleen (Live Free and Run), Heidi (Life in Pink), Lindsay (Lindsay Weighs In), Mar (Mar on the Run). Back Row L to R: Lisa (Lisa Runs for Cupcakes), Erika (MCM Mama Runs), Courtney (Eat Pray Run, DC), Natalie (This Mommy Runs), me, Sue (This Mama Runs for Cupcakes).
After the mocktails, a few of us hung out in the bar area – not drinking alcohol, we had had enough! – eating crab dip (it’s Annapolis, you must get crab!) and chatting for a while.
We played “Guess what’s in Sue’s purse?” – army men is the answer, not a hair tie as she had hoped.
Lindsay had been a busy bee, working the ZOOMA booth at the Expo and stopping by for a hello in the restaurant. It was fun to chat with her, and she even re-enacted the photo of my son from the top of this post:
She did a pretty good job with the re-enactment, right?
A fun time was had by all. Courtney and I eventually called it a night and headed up to our room. We laid out our race gear, set our alarms, and got some shut-eye.
Unfortunately, I didn’t sleep well. I felt like I had to cough (thanks, sick children earlier in the week!) so I had to sleep sitting up, and at 3am I was wide awake from Walking-Dead-esque zombie dreams. Not a great way to rest up for the half marathon, but I don’t always sleep well the night before a race anyhow.
Tune in later this week for THE RACE RECAP!
One more thing! The Annapolis Ambassadors are hosting a ZOOMA Annapolis Race Recap linkup! Check out the recaps and add your own below!
