Another fabulous guest post for you today comes from Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner. I love my two running groups – Moms Run This Town and Montgomery County Road Runners, along with the DC LUNA Chix Run Team I’m a part of. Check out all the benefits of joining a running group and comment below!
Thanks Cynthia for allowing me to take over while you are traveling the world! When I first connected with Cynthia a few years back, we quickly realized that we were both Chapter Leaders for Moms Run This Town groups in the Washington DC area. I immediately felt a connection to her so when she asked me to write a post for her today, writing about our running group seemed the perfect fit.
If you are a reader of my blog (Confessions of a Mother Runner) as well, you have probably heard me gush about my love for my MRTT running group. So today I am going to give you some of the reasons why I love it so much.
Knowing that your group is out there running gives you that extra push to get out there. Before I was in my group, if it was raining or too cold I could easily find some excuse why I couldn’t possibly make it out for a run. Knowing that I have committed to others to be there, I have a responsibility to myself and my running buddies.
A running group offers a wealth of information on so many topics! Want to know how to stave off blisters or chafing? You can bet that you will get all sorts of ideas on your morning run. Feeling a little twitch in your knee? You can find great resources for doctors and therapists. No need to google for info because it’s all right there.
Most running groups have numerous group runs per week so there is always someone to run with. For safety reasons, it’s always nice to know that you can usually find a buddy to tag along with you even at the last minute.
If you have always dreamed of completing your first half or full marathon or maybe taking on a mud run or a triathlon, there will be someone to convince you that you can do it. Most likely they will even do it with you! My group talked me into doing 2 Ragnar relay races-something I never would have taken on.
Probably the most unexpected and most treasured benefit for me are the many lifelong friends I know I have made. You will most likely meet people that you never would have met, who may just become your very best friends in addition to your favorite running partners.
I could go on and on about how much I love my Moms Run This Town group. If you’d like to find one in your area, you can check the national site here.
Thanks Cynthia for letting me guest post today!
