I’ve just returned from an amazing two days in New York for the IRONMAN World Championship Broadcast Premiere Viewing Party. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to do the social media coverage for the IRONMAN Foundation, and had a behind-the-scenes perspective to the event. I have a post coming on the experience, along with some amazing photos – but for now I’ll just say that I’m riding on an Ironman and triathlon high and the timing couldn’t be better, since I start Ironman Lake Placid training now.
Between working with the IRONMAN Foundation staff, covering the event on social media, interviewing professional triathletes and other VIPs, seeing tri-friends, meeting so many great people, and screening the IRONMAN World Championship broadcast, the evening was motivational.
It’s incredible timing that this experience comes right at the week when my Ironman Lake Placid training starts. I feel more motivated and inspired than ever to become an Ironman – and to put my heart and soul into the training over the next 7 months.
One of the coolest parts of the evening was the opportunity to interview Heather Jackson in the Green Room before the event. I’ve been a huge fan of hers – she won Ironman Lake Placid this year when I was cheering/volunteering/training there, and came in 3rd in Kona.
In the Green Room interview on Monday, she gave me some advice for my first full Ironman – and Lake Placid in particular. You can find it here if the embedded video below doesn’t show.
I’m running out to buy more sweet potatoes right now.
So now it’s time to get down to business with training. I have a new coach and my training plan starts this week.
Like right now.
I’ve switched my coaching to Bob McKeown at South Shore Tri Coach, whom I got to know this summer when I was in Lake Placid volunteering. I also spent some time with Bob at Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City and throughout the weekend.
I’m really excited to be working with Bob and feel confident that with his coaching, I’ll be well prepared for Lake Placid. I’ll even be attending his Lake Placid Training Camp in June – you can join me with code YOUSIGNEDUP for a $75 discount.
I took a picture with Bob after the Ironman event on Monday, and guess who photobombed us – Heather Jackson herself! It’s gotta be a good sign.
More to come tomorrow about the experience this week but for now…
I’d better get on my bike!
